Wabakimi Provincial Park - Wilderness North

Celebrating 30 Years of Wilderness North  –

“When you look at the face of Canada and study the geography carefully, you come away with the feeling that one could have designed the canoe first and then set about to conceive a land in which it could flourish” –Bill Mason, Path of the Paddle

Wabakimi Provincial Park was established in 1983 and includes 2.2 million acres of wilderness. Soak in the endless green of spruce, tamaracks and jack pine on your camping adventure.

The magic of this park is that it is not accessible by road, visitors must access the park by float plane, train or canoe. This remote area has thousands of kilometers of waterways making the canoeing possibilities endless. When backcountry camping within the park guests must travel with a Wabakimi Park permit, permits are included in guided trip costs.

Approximately 25% of the parks shores are exposed smoothed bedrock, providing idyllic camping opportunities.

Before you visit:

  • Backcountry visitors to the park need travel with park permits. These can be arranged through Wilderness North, or online through Ontario Parks.
  • Looking to fish within the park? Ensure you travel with an up-to-date Ontario Outdoors card and Fishing License. Wilderness North can arrange this if preferred.
  • Wabakimi is located North of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Visitors can fly into Thunder Bay Int. Airport before making their way to Armstrong, Ontario. From here guests can either paddle, fly or train into the park.
