Rolled Clothes

How to pack compact

Since we have limited space on our float planes we have to maximize the amount of space that we use when packing and the best way to do that with clothing is to roll your clothes. In this blog we will outline how to roll all the different types of clothes you might have and some other packing tips to maximize the space you have.

The good and bad things about rolling vs folding

Folding
Pros
  • There isn’t much effort required
  • Packing and unpacking is faster so it works better for outfits you will wear right at you arrive
  • Formal wear will hold its shape better when it is folded vs when it is rolled
Cons
  • Folded clothes are more likely to wrinkle/crease
  • Harder to dig around to find the pieces you need. If your luggage jugs around, chances are everything will move from its original position’

Rolling
Pros
  • Saves space in your suitcase and backpack
  • Makes it very easy to grab what you are looking for in your luggage
  • Works very well with stretchy materials
Cons
  • It takes much more time rolling than folding
  • Some of the clothes will be hard to roll

How to roll each article of clothing

  • Fold the sleeves in
  • Then fold the T-shirt into thirds
  • Fold about 2 inches of the bottom of the shirt

When traveling on any airline you do need to be aware of the weight restrictions their planes, below is our weight restrictions for our planes.

Baggage Weights
Miminiska Lodge: 50lbs. per person
Makokibatan Lodge: 75lbs. per person
Striker’s Point Lodge: 75lbs. per person
Whitewater Lodge: 125lbs. per person
All Outposts: 125lbs. per person

When packing make sure you pack stuff that you can wear multiple times especially when you are traveling somewhere that doesn’t have access to easy washing machines, it makes it easier to plan less outfits, and can lower how much your luggage weighs.
